A Typical Alarm SystemA typical Intruder Alarm System installed in a domestic premises would comprise of several Detection Devices connected to a Control Panel. Sounders positioned in the Hallway and externally on the front elevation of the building would provide Audible Signalling. In addition the system may use a communications device known as a digital communicator to transmit signals to a Central Monitoring Station to provide a means of Remote Signalling. The Central Monitoring Station then notifies the police and keyholders of an alarm activation at the premises.
Setting and unsetting of a modern intruder alarm system is most commonly achieved using a Remote Keypad positioned conveniently within the Hallway or some other suitable area.
Professionally installed, all cabling on your system would be concealed wherever possible by routing it beneath the floorboards. In this way a system will cause the minimum of disruption to your existing decor and be better protected against either accidental or deliberate damage.
At Knight Installations we specialise in fitting the Detection Systems ABACUS range of control panels. This range offers a truly user friendly interface to the alarm system via remote keypads which display instructions in full English text. They can store between 7 and 99 individual user access codes and will even address each user by their first name if required. Each zone is also identified by a text description, so that you can easily identify problems should they occur. Detection Systems ABACUS 6/14 Range
Detection Systems ABACUS 8/80 Range
The most common method in use today for the detection of Intruders is the Passive Infrared Detector. These devices detect the movement of an intruder's body heat in the protected area and trigger the alarm control panel. ![]() In the vast majority of cases we fit the Detection Systems own range of Passive Infrared Detectors because they enable us to take maximum advantage of the ABACUS range of Control Panels. ![]() Where pets have a free run of the protected premises or where environmental conditions would make using a passive detector prone to false alarm activations, we would use a Detection Systems DS820i Combined Microwave & Passive Infrared Detector with patented Tri-Tech pet immunity. These detectors use dual technologies to detect the presence of an intruder. A Passive Infrared Detector would check for movement of heat whilst a Microwave Detector within the same housing detects the movement of large objects. The Microwave operates in a similar way to the roadside traffic cameras that we are all now so familiar with. |
